Common symptoms may include difficulty communicating and relating to others, restricted interests and repetitive behaviours, difficulty understanding others’ perspectives or feelings, difficulty regulating emotions, sensory issues such as sensitivity to sound, or light and impaired motor coordination or movements.

Treatments focus on helping individuals develop communication, socialization, independence, and learning skills. They may involve different types of therapy such as Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, social skills groups, dietary modifications and medications prescribed to address behavioral problems.
